CHARACTERS


GOMEZ ADDAMS:

Age: 25+

Vocal Range: Baritone/ Tenor

Notes: B-flat2 to G4

A seductive man of Spanish descent who takes great pride in his family and revels in all it means to be an “Addams”. He struggles with having to keep his daughter Wednesday’s secret from his wife Morticia, whom he adores more than death. Being caught between his daughter and his wife, he feels completely trapped and unable to make either happy, which is his greatest joy.

MORTICIA ADDAMS:

Age: 25+

Vocal Range: Soprano/ Mezzo Soprano

Notes: G3 to B-flat5

A dark and mysterious woman, who has a body to die for, Morticia is the strength of the family and often seems be the only emotionally mature member of the clan. She has a seductive and sexy, dry wit. She can sense that her husband is hiding something from her and will use any tactic to lure the secret out.

WEDNESDAY ADDAMS:

Age: 16 - 26

Vocal Range: Alto/ Mezzo Soprano

Notes: A3 to E5

Wednesday is an attractive, deadpan girl, who has the same dry wit and sensibility as her mother, Morticia. She has found love with Lucas Beineke, a “normal” boy and wants to introduce her family to his. She experiences the youthful drama that comes with first love. Lucas can actually put a smile on her face.

PUGSLEY ADDAMS:

Age: 10 - 26

Vocal Range: Tenor/ Baritone

Notes: A2 to F4

A charming, funny and naive (almost to the point of being dim-witted) boy, who loves being tortured by his sister, Wednesday. Pugsley feels that he is losing his sister to her new boyfriend and he isn't happy about it. He decides to take matters into his own hands and get rid of Lucas by any means possible.

FESTER ADDAMS:

Age: 25+

Vocal Range: Tenor/ Baritone

Notes: C3 to C5

Fester is Gomez' older brother, who serves as the Narrator in this story. He is larger than life, energetic, joyous and totally incorrigible. Fester is a vaudevillian style comedian with a child-like presence. He leads the Ancestors in their quest to help Wednesday and Lucas towards their happy ending. Fester is in love with the moon.

GRANDMA:

Age: 25+

Vocal Range: Anything/ Soprano

Notes: G4 to F5

Grandma has always been a very powerful witch and potion brewer. By looking at her, you get the impression that she was once  a very beautiful woman, but she has since gone to seed. Even though she is a fun and quirky 102 year old woman, she is very feisty and you don't want to mess with her. Both Gomez and Morticia argue over whose mother she actually is.

LURCH:

Age: 16+

Vocal Range: Bass

Notes: E-flat2 to E4

Lurch is a towering, zombie-like male, who has been the butler for The Addams Family for many, many years. Even though he usually speaks only in deep moans and groans, Lurch knows all. He is extremely loyal to every member of the family and is always around when he is needed. His movements and mannerisms are very slow.

THE BEINEKE FAMILY


LUCAS BEINEKE:

Age: 16 - 26

Vocal Range: Tenor/ Baritone

Notes: C3 to C5

A very attractive and in shape young man, who is totally devoted to Wednesday. He fell in love with his new girlfriend at first sight and his ultimate plan is to marry her. Like Wednesday, Lucas experiences the youthful pain and drama of young love and struggles with the differences between his family and the Addams family.

MAL BEINEKE:

Age: 25+

Vocal Range: Tenor/ Baritone

Notes: C3 to A4

Malcolm is the stuffy, uptight father of Lucas and exasperated husband to his rhyming wife, Alice. When he was a young man, he was a huge fan and avid follower of The Grateful Dead but as he grew older, he lost that side of himself. Always looking out for his family, Mal doesn't like anything that he perceives to be weird or kooky.

ALICE BEINEKE:

Age: 25+

Vocal Range: Mezzo Soprano/ Soprano

Notes: A-flat3 to G-sharp5

The mother of Lucas, Alice is extremely devoted to her family and always puts aside her own desires. She is a quirky, cheerful woman, who often speaks in rhyme. While at the Addams Family dinner party, she accidentally drinks a potion that causes her to finally let her hair down and unleash her dark and wild side.

THE ANCESTORS


The Ancestors are the ghostly male and female relatives of the Addams Family. They were summoned by Fester, who won’t let them go back to the afterlife until they help Wednesday and Lucas have their happy ending. They are fun, energetic and quirky characters.

FEMALE ANCESTORS


The Bride: Diana Addams

Age: 16+

Paired With: The Gladiator

Diana Addams was the most beautiful bride ever and she wanted to have a truly extravagant wedding to match: Hundreds of guests, a beautiful ceremony and Doves being released at the end. Unfortunately, she wasn’t married long, having died on her honeymoon night…of bird flu.


The Flapper: Velma Addams

Age: 16+

Paired With: The Newsie

During the roaring twenties, Velma Addams was a real social butterfly who was born to dance. One night, Velma entered a “Dance ‘til you Drop” contest, determined to win at all costs. Unwilling to be undone by anybody, Velma danced until she dropped down dead.


The French Revolutionist: Antoinette Addams

Age: 16+

Paired With: The Tudor Prince

Antoinette Addams lived a privileged life during the French Revolution, making her money selling Guillotine’s for public executions. She died when, after being asked how the contraption works, she decided to do a quick demonstration on herself.


The Postulant: Regina Addams

Age: 16+

Paired With: The Pharaoh

Regina Addams always wanted to be a nun and she was always ready to help. One day she rescued a cat that had been chased up a tree by a rapid dog. On the way down the cat scratched her viciously. The scratches become infected and she died after refusing to seek traditional medical treatment.


The Stewardess: Trixe Addams

Age: 16+

Paired With: The Caveman

Even though she was one of the best Stewardesses ever, Trixie Addams had a reputation for being notoriously ditzy and late. Rushing to board a flight, she fell off the jet bridge and onto the tarmac. She died after being run over by the docking plane. It’s ironic that being early is what killed her.


MALE ANCESTORS


The Caveman: Ugg Addams

Age: 16+

Paired With: The Stewardess

Ugg Addams was a fierce hunter/ gatherer and the alpha male of his clan. Everyone else feared him for ferocity and quick temper. One day while hunting for food, he saw his reflection for the first time. Thinking he had seen an enemy, he flew into a rage and beat himself to death with his own club.


The Gladiator: Cassius Addams

Age: 16+

Paired With: The Bride

Cassius Addams was the greatest Gladiator ever. One day, after slaying ten lions and becoming supreme arena champion, the people lifted him up and paraded him down the street. Sadly he was too heavy for them to carry and they dropped him, causing him to crack his head open on the road.


The Newsie: Theodore Addams

Age: 16+

Paired With: The Flapper

Theo loved being a newsboy, because he loved the news. He usually read the paper as he walked home, but one day a headline distracted him and he accidentally walked onto the road and died when he was hit by a car. The headline that distracted him: Pedestrian Deaths Continue to Rise.


The Pharaoh: Imhotep Addams

Age: 16+

Paired With: The Postulant

Imhotep Addams was a great ruler but he was also a perfectionist. One day, while inspecting his tomb, he discovered that his workers didn’t install a window he had asked for. After dismissing them, he started chiselling away at the tomb, unfortunately the whole room caved in and he was crushed.


The Shakespearian Actor: Romeo Addams

Age: 16+

Paired With: The French Revolutionist

Romeo Addams was one of the greatest actors ever and always received high praise. During a curtain call, after a very moving performance, the cheering crowd ran out of roses to throw at the bowing actor and started throwing their coats. Romeo suffocated under the weight of all the coats.

The Native American: Namid Addams

Age: 16+

Paired With: The Pilgrim

Namid Addams was the beautiful daughter of a Chief. She met her untimely end after drinking peyote and starting her vision quest. Compelled to dive off a cliff and soar with the spirits of the air before meeting with the spirits of the water, she was unaware that the tide had gone out.


The Pilgrim: Bartholomew Addams

Age: 16+

Paired With: The Native American

An avid fan of Thanksgiving, Bart had to have the biggest turkey at every dinner. One year he fought and won against his rival for a huge wild turkey that had wandered into the village. Feeling the need to boast as he enjoyed his meal, Bart forgot to chew his food properly and ended up choking.


COUSIN ITT

Age: 5+

Cousin Itt is a relative of The Addams Family, whose entire body is covered with hair. Even though people outside the Addams family normally can't understand him when he speaks, he has an extremely high IQ of over 300. Even though Cousin Itt doesn't live in the Addams Mansion, he has his own bedroom, because he visits all the time.


COUSIN THATT

Age: 5+

She is a female version of Cousin Itt. She also is completely covered in hair and speaks in high pitched squeaks. She is very sassy and isn’t interested in Cousin Itt’s romantic advances initially. But throughout the show, she starts flirting with Cousin Itt more and more and eventually the two, fall in love with each other.

AUDITION INFORMATION


DATES: Saturday 15th July & Sunday 16th July 2017

TIME: 10am – 4:30pm

VENUE: The Riverbank Centre, Reyburn House Lane, Whangarei


For your audition, you will be asked to sing a song from the show (you are welcome to bring your own sheet music or backing track – these can be found on Youtube.  Otherwise there will be a pianist with sheet music on the day). You will then be asked to read/ act out one or two scenes for the character that you’re auditioning for. Our Choreographer will then take you through a quick dance routine.

Wednesday Addams has grown up and fallen in love with Lucas Beineke, a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family - a man her parents have never met. And if that weren’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before - keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents.
